Our methodology
How we rate pet insurance
A high score should mean more than a glossy advertisement. We compare the policy language and the experience behind it so you can make a more informed choice.
Coverage breadth
We review accident and illness benefits, hereditary and congenital coverage, exam fees, dental care, behavioral treatment, and annual or lifetime limits.
Value and flexibility
We compare premiums, deductibles, reimbursement options, waiting periods, plan limits, and add-ons. Prices are examples, not quotes; your pet, location, age, and plan choices all matter.
Claims experience
We consider publicly available claims guidance, processing expectations, direct-pay options, and independent review signals. Scores are editorial comparisons, not guarantees.
The fine print
We give extra attention to exclusions, bilateral clauses, pre-existing-condition rules, and orthopedic waiting periods—the details most likely to change what a policy pays.
